Which products should you check?
USDA’s October 17 notice, recall 026-2026, covers approximately 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry produced March 31 through October 7, 2026. Products went to retail and food-service locations. Brands in the manufacturer’s list include Kayem, al fresco, McKenzie, Genoa, Triple M, and others.
Inspection marks include EST. M/P 7839, P 20935A, and M 9520. Those marks alone are not enough: compare the product name, UPC, and date against the complete list on Kayem’s recall page. There is no single lot code that identifies every affected item.
Why was it recalled?
Kayem reported a warehouse cooling-system malfunction. USDA classified the recall as Class I. The concern is temperature abuse, not a confirmed named pathogen. USDA’s announcement reported no confirmed illnesses at that time.
What should you do?
Do not taste a recalled product to check it. Discard it or return it to the place of purchase. Check refrigerated and frozen supplies, since affected products may still be at home. Contact Kayem at 800-426-6100 with product questions; contact a healthcare professional if you are concerned about illness.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep it if it was in my freezer?
Check the product identifiers anyway. Freezing at home does not establish that a product subject to this recall is safe.
Are all Kayem products included?
No. Use the manufacturer’s complete product, UPC, and date list. Brand or establishment number alone is insufficient.
